Driver Training for the Home Schooled Teenager

The Coronavirus has shut down schools all across our country forcing millions of students to learn from the confines of their homes. Subjects such as math, science, social studies as well as special subjects such as physical education and music must be taught creatively online. Driver Education on the other hand requires state mandated hours of behind the wheel training as well as specific classroom instruction. Many states have simply cancelled their driver education programs or have rescheduled them with unspecific dates far into the future. This is frustrating for parents as well as teens anxious to obtain their driving privileges.

Three Point Turn Like a Pro!

The AAA  Foundation for Traffic Safety has proclaimed the time period between Memorial Day and Labor Day the “100  Deadliest Days.” During this time period teenage crashes increase significantly! In fact more than 5000 traffic fatalities have been attributed to teenage drivers during this dangerous three month period. Parents Need to be Partners in Driver Education!

According to the AAA Foundation of Traffic Safety, teenagers account for the highest number of automobile crashes in the United States. The ages IMG_3496bfree16-25 age group has been proclaimed the risk pool the by insurance agencies around the country, and as a result their rates are significantly higher than experienced drivers.  Teens also lead the way in mobile device crashes as well as alcohol fatalities. So how do we address this major societal problem? Stricter laws and increased fines have helped a little bit, but have not significantly made a difference in the lowering of the teen accident rate. Driver Education has also helped educate young drivers. but yet again has made only a small impact on this major problem.
